Breathe—Learn—Marvel

Forest Days in the Ahlenmoor with certified forest educator Martin Jonas from the Lower Saxony State Forest Service.

Is there even such a thing as a combination of moorland and forest areas? Yes, in the area around the MoorIZ in Wanna, there is a small but very interesting forested area managed by the Lower Saxony State Forest Service. This traditional site possesses all the key characteristics of a valuable forested area. The changes in the forest—a topic much discussed these days—can be observed particularly well at this location. Ancient giant trees, standing alongside abundant natural regeneration, are meant to give us hope for the future.

During this field trip, participants discuss modern and emerging topics in forestry. For example, are new tree species the panacea for climate change? Or are there also risks? The various forest animals are examined more closely using taxidermy specimens. Touching and experiencing these exhibits also brings visitors very close to the wildlife.

This expert-led tour is rounded out with a broad look toward the future. How will climate change affect the forest and its inhabitants? Can we all work together to make a difference—or, better yet, still make a difference? What impact does hunting have on the forest? To ensure this event isn’t just about imparting knowledge, there will be plenty of fun, games, and pure joy.

Just let yourself be surprised again!
