Vortrag: Das Edo-Wiemken-Grabmal in Jever (Projekt zur Erforschung und Restaurierung)
The Edo Wiemken tomb, erected in the second half of the 16th century in the choir of Jever’s town church, is considered a significant work of Flemish Mannerism, whose artistic and cultural-historical significance extends far beyond Jever and the region. The design and execution can be attributed to the circle of the Antwerp master Cornelis Floris.
Maria von Jever commissioned this elaborate work of art in memory of her father, Edo Wiemken (1468–1511), and as a lasting tribute to her dynasty. In connection with the planned restoration, the tomb and the crypt beneath it are undergoing a comprehensive examination. Antje Sander reports on her research findings and the status of the analyses.
