Venner Folk Frühling

Festival
Operetta
Festival of the entire spectrum of folk music
A very special kind of folk festival

There are hardly any festivals of this kind left in Germany. The big folk festivals have been gone for decades. As a result, this style is also disappearing more and more from people's minds. With the exception of very few broadcasts, this music no longer features in the media at all.

A look across our borders, for example to Scandinavia, where folk music is an integral part of everyday life in all areas and therefore also in the media. Of course, the big events, e.g. in Tonder/Denmark, are also supported by the government. The same applies to festivals in Italy and France. But even in Germany, the Bardentreffen in Nuremberg would be inconceivable without public funding. A permanent team from the city of Nuremberg is employed all year round to organize and stage the festival.

Looking at the entire German folk scene, the Venner Folk Frühling is now one of the largest events of its kind in Germany. Apart from Rudolstadt (world music) and Nuremberg (Bardentreffen), there is hardly anything comparable. While the music at the two aforementioned events concentrates primarily on the style of "world music", Venne follows the path of traditional folk music combined with new and modern stylistic elements. What began in Venne in 1999 was an attempt to revitalize the folk scene. We have undoubtedly succeeded in this. The festival is a meeting place for all folk music.

According to a study, we are the only real folk festival in Lower Saxony. We believe this is a good reason to maintain this event, to support it and to expand it even further. Many media and cultural magazines in the state of Lower Saxony now refer to the event and its national presence.
