Schöpfwerksführung Greetsiel
Pumping stations primarily protect against flooding from both inside and outside. This guided tour focuses on inland drainage and coastal protection in the municipality of Krummhörn. Learn interesting facts about the responsibilities and work of the “Erster Entwässerungsverband Emden” and the “Deichacht Krummhörn.” The meeting point for this 1.5-hour tour is the plaza in front of the “Lüttje Schaap” sheepskin shop, Schulweg 1 in Greetsiel. The tour begins with an explanation of the pumping station from the outside, the new sluice gates, and the flood levels. After taking in the view of the Greetsiel marina from the dike, the tour continues inside the pumping station: among other things, the pumps will be explained, and the history of the first sluice gate leading to the pumping station at Knock in Emden, as well as dike construction and dike safety, will be discussed.
