Rául Krauthausen is the best-known activist for inclusion and accessibility—and the loudest voice in Germany when it comes to upholding the rights of people with disabilities. In his book, he raises fundamental and often uncomfortable questions about inclusion in Germany, prompts his readers to confront their own ableism, and develops a vision of how inclusion can truly be lived out at all levels. The event is part of the “Seiten-Weise-Menschen” series.

“Seiten-Weise-Menschen” is more than just a reading series. Together with the Literaturbüro Westniedersachsen, Stigma e.V. creates spaces for encounter, shifting perspectives, and social dialogue. Authors share their life stories and offer insights into experiences that broaden our perspective on society. The focus is on people—their abilities, dreams, challenges, and contributions to a successful coexistence. The series thus addresses central questions of our time: How can we achieve inclusion? How do we overcome prejudice? And how can we view diversity not as a challenge, but as a strength of our society? After all, inclusion means more than just accessibility—it means recognizing differences as an asset and creating conditions in which all people can realize their potential and contribute on an equal footing. With this approach, the series directly builds on the educational and prevention work of Stigma e.V., which advocates for destigmatization, participation, and learning from life experience. Change begins where people listen to one another, learn from one another, and develop new perspectives together.
Diversity is not a problem to be solved—it is a reality that makes our society stronger. Inclusion, therefore, does not mean adapting people to existing structures, but rather designing structures so that different life realities naturally find their place. “Seiten-Weise-Menschen” aims to promote precisely this shift in perspective.
