From peat works to MoorInformationCenter
Between 1956 and 2011, peat from the Ahlenmoor was processed into potting soil in today's MoorIZ. The peat works underwent a transformation and was converted into the MoorInformationsZentrum (MoorIZ). Today, the MoorIZ is an important point of contact in the Ahlenmoor and houses a visitor information center.
The MoorIZ Ahlenmoor's interactive exhibition in the old peat works invites visitors to learn more about the past and future of the moor's natural and cultural landscape. What is a moor? What do we think about the moor? And: Who lives in the moor?
Nature and people are at the heart of this journey of discovery, which takes visitors on winding and swaying paths through the exhibition. From the top floor, they can let their gaze wander into the vastness of the Ahlenmoor and explore the region on a walk-in aerial view of the Elbe-Weser triangle from Hamburg to Bremen and Cuxhaven.
