LiteraTour Nord: Kerstin Preiwuß, Wir alle

A pawnbroker who no longer understands the world. A man living in a garden shed who wants a little luck in life. A man who keeps going despite being retired. A young woman who can’t make up her mind. These people cross paths in a sweltering city in the eastern part of the country. Although they have little in common, they become bound by shared fate, for times are tough and the pressure is mounting. Kerstin Preiwuß paints a razor-sharp picture of the culminating crises of our time and sets out in search of a “we” in the long “now.” Because it affects all of us.

Kerstin Preiwuß was born in Lübz in 1980 and now lives with her family in Leipzig. Since the winter semester of 2021, she has held the chair of “Literary Aesthetics” at the German Literature Institute in Leipzig. The poet, novelist, and essayist earned her doctorate with a dissertation on German-Polish place names and made her debut in 2006 with the poetry collection *Nachricht von neuen Sternen* (*News of New Stars*), followed by the poetry collection *Rede* (*Speech*) in 2012. In 2014, her highly acclaimed debut novel “Restwärme” was published, followed in 2016 by the poetry collection “Gespür für Licht” and in 2017 by her second novel, “Nach Onkalo,” which was nominated for the German Book Prize. In 2020, the poetry collection “Taupunkt” was published. She has received numerous awards for her work, including the Hermann Lenz Fellowship, the Merano Poetry Prize, the Eichendorff Literature Prize, and, most recently in 2020, the Anke Bennholdt-Thomsen Poetry Prize from the German Schiller Foundation. Kerstin Preiwuß has been a member of the German Academy for Language and Literature since 2021.
