La Papaya Topola & Die Peanuts

…is a narrative theater story by Dario Fo, written around 1100 and certainly invented and recorded by a woman, a storyteller. The fable is about Giovan Pietro, a shepherd who tends his flock on the alp all year round and lives alone the entire year. One day, his employer—who suffered from a paranoid hatred of women—is on his deathbed and, surprisingly, leaves his entire inheritance to Giovan Pietro. Suddenly, all the mothers flock to the alp and want to marry their daughters off to him. But the priest, Don Faina, has a different plan…

Before and after the story: “The Peanuts” perform swing, rock ’n’ roll, tango, and klezmer.
