Interesting Facts About the Pilsum Cross Church
The Romanesque church was built in the 13th century. The massive crossing tower gives the church a fortified appearance. In the Middle Ages, the church served not only as a place of worship but also as a refuge during storm surges. The crossing tower also served as a defensive tower and a navigational marker.

What is a cruciform church? Why is the tower leaning? Why is there only one bell? Why do the paintings consist only of fragments? How many people lived in Pilsum, and what did they do for a living? How was a baptism conducted?

Your church guide will answer these and other questions.

Schedules: every Tuesday and Thursday at 11 a.m. from Holy Week through Reformation Day (October 31, 2026).
