Paula's Inspiration

Marking the 150th Anniversary of Paula Modersohn-Becker’s Birth

February 7 through November 1, 2026

In 2025, Paula Modersohn-Becker and her fellow artists will take center stage in the exhibition programs of the four museums in Worpswede. This tribute to Worpswede’s most significant artistic figure on the occasion of her 150th birthday will continue in 2026 with another joint exhibition. It is thus part of the multi-year project “ZEITENWENDE. Art on the Move in a World of Upheaval‹ (2022–2027), which uses the anniversaries of key artistic figures as an opportunity to connect artistic traditions and groundbreaking historical innovations with contemporary artistic movements and social issues.

Taking one work by Paula Modersohn-Becker from each of the four museums as their starting point, the curators of the four museums embark on artistic journeys of discovery under the title “Impuls Paula.” Following various thematic strands, they present works of art that can be viewed and understood in the context of the inspiration Paula Modersohn-Becker provided through her life and work, and that hold significance for the current art scene and its social reception.

Worpsweder Kunsthalle

Up Close. Inès Longevial

The Worpsweder Kunsthalle is exhibiting works by the contemporary French artist Inès Longevial. Her preferred subject is the self-portrait, which, as with Paula Modersohn-Becker, serves as a means of exploring her own identity. She views the female body as a medium for sensations and moods that often appear melancholic, yet also represent an expression of inner strength. Following exhibitions in Paris, New York, and Shanghai, Inès Longevial is presenting her first solo exhibition in Germany.
