Waschzuber Regatta, shanties, and a sea of lights.

At the “Festival of 1,000 Lanterns” in Augustfehn, visitors can look forward to a maritime spectacle full of tradition, music, and entertainment. Along the Augustfehn Canal, brave participants in the popular wash tub regatta engage in a wobbly race on the water—it’s not uncommon for the race to end prematurely with an involuntary dip in the water. For the grand finale, teams compete against each other in the legendary Plank Battle, trying to push their opponents off a narrow plank into the water—a wet and wild experience for participants and spectators alike.

In the afternoon, shanty choirs from Augustfehn, Barßel, and—for the first time—Bad Zwischenahn will provide authentic seafaring romance with atmospheric songs and maritime flair. In the evening, the band “United Four” takes the stage in the festival tent on Eisenhüttenplatz, setting the mood with well-known classics, current hits, and a lively party atmosphere.

The grand finale is the spectacular fireworks display, which delights thousands of visitors year after year. Colorful effects, modern displays, and special anniversary surprises will turn the night sky over Augustfehn into an unforgettable experience.
