Eröffnung der Püntensaison
At the opening of the Pünten season 2026 guests can once again look forward to a colourful program lovingly put together by the Püntenverein.
The Pünte.....
For over 450 years the hand-drawn ferry (Treidelpünte) has crossed the Jümme in Wiltshausen on the two rivers Leda and Jümme. The ferry was mentioned in writing as early as 1562, and its design remains the same as it was then. Only today's visitors are very different from those who came to this area 450 years ago thanks to the hand-operated ferry. At that time, the "Pünte" was an important link between the land on either side of the Jümme and Leda, as there were no bridges over these rivers.
The main trade and travel route from Westphalia to East Friesland therefore ran via the Treidelpünte near Amdorf-Wiltshausen, on the so-called Lüdeweg, which led via Backemoor to this point on the Zweistrom (Leda-Jümme). It is hard to imagine how many coaches and stagecoaches once took this route via the Pünte. Today, after more than 450 years, our Pünte is at least as well known as it was back then, even if it is no longer of such strategic transport importance. It now serves as an attraction for holidaymakers and tourists.
The Pünte's sailing times always start on May 1st and end on October 1st.
And that's why on May 1st, when the season opens, it's once again "Ferryman get over!"
Ferry times:
Wednesday - Friday approx. 10.00 - approx. 17.30
Saturday and Sunday approx. 10.00 - approx. 17.30
The ferry crosses tidal waters! There may therefore be breaks in the ferry service due to high or low water. You can find out about the ferry's operational readiness by calling the ferryman on 0151 62 42 71 71
