Visit the nationally significant School Museum, featuring a valuable exhibition and a historic classroom. Guided tours and historical school lessons are available (registration required). Right next door is the newly modernized Nature Discovery Center: here you can gain insight into the flora and fauna of Friesland—through multimedia, close to nature, and in an entertaining way. On the grounds of the School Museum, you’ll also find part of the Zetel Sculpture Landscape—discover Gesine and Emil and other works of art in public spaces.

The Northwest German School Museum was founded in 1978 by Bodo and Ursel Wacker. In the mid-1970s, a large number of small rural schools were closed and consolidated into central schools. To prevent the old teaching and learning materials, as well as other school furnishings, from being irretrievably lost, the School Museum was established in the former Bohlenbergerfeld elementary school.

The Northwest German School Museum is a member of the Museum Association for Lower Saxony and Bremen e. V. It also maintains contacts with Carl von Ossietzky University in Oldenburg, the Institute of Educational Pedagogy at the University of Würzburg, and the Oldenburgische Landschaft. The Bohlenbergerfeld School Museum works closely with the Castle Museum in Jever on many levels. Since 2008, the museum has been authorized to use the title “Registered Museum” ↑ as a seal of quality. Since 2014, the museum has been sponsored by the Förderverein Schulmuseum Zetel e.V.

Nature Discovery Center

Informative display panels, multimedia stations, and taxidermy specimens showcase and explain the natural world of the Frisian Wehde. You can learn something new or deepen your knowledge practically just by walking by.

Which garden herbs are edible? Which ones are poisonous? Which birds nest where, and which butterflies eat which plants—and do they
even need them to survive?

Take advantage of the museum garden for an entertaining and educational outing—this certainly won’t be your last visit here
