Christmas Shift at the Upper Harz Mining Museum

The Upper Harz Mining Museum, in collaboration with the Clausthal-Zellerfeld Tourist Information Office, invites visitors to a very special “Christmas Shift” at the museum in Clausthal-Zellerfeld on the first weekend of Advent—November 28 and 29: On Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., visitors can explore the above- and below-ground buildings and experience mining in a festive Christmas setting. The combination of industrial charm and festive coziness makes this market an unforgettable experience for the whole family.
On the lovingly decorated mining museum grounds, visitors and locals alike can enjoy mulled wine, punch, Lumumba, sweet treats, and hearty dishes, as well as browse through a variety of arts and crafts. Surrounded by historic machinery and impressive artifacts from mining history, the stalls glow with warm light and invite visitors to linger. Many local artists and vendors are on hand, offering the chance to pick up your first Christmas gifts both above and below ground while exploring the facilities.
One of the highlights—alongside the musical program—is the guided tours on both days, running every half hour starting at 11:00 a.m., through the Christmas-illuminated above- and below-ground exhibition mine. Here, over 200 festive lights offer a whole new perspective on the mining history of the Upper Harz region.
