Christmas lights illuminate the city from November 25 to December 30, 2025. The Christmas magic that covers the entire market square is one of the most beautiful Christmas markets in East Frisia. Located in the middle of the festively decorated pedestrian zone, the small town in East Frisia exudes a special charm that captivates locals and visitors alike, especially at this time of year.
The artisans who offer their crafts in pretty Christmas stalls are particularly worth seeing.
There are many valuable prizes to be won every year in the non-profit Christmas lottery "The Golden 7" in the huge Christmas pyramid. Buying a ticket also supports good causes: the net proceeds are distributed to regional associations and institutions. There is also a special grand prize every week that you shouldn't miss out on.

You can reach Aurich by car from Cologne/Düsseldorf/Oberhausen via the A31 towards Emden/Ostfriesland, exit Riepe. Coming from Dortmund/Osnabrück, take the A1/A29/A28 towards Leer, exit Filsum. If you are coming from Hamburg/Hannover/Bremen, take the A1/A7/A27 and then the A28 towards Leer, Filsum exit.
The market square is located in the city center. You can park directly under the market square in the underground parking garage "Marktplatz". Access from Von-Jhering-Straße.
The Leer (Ostfriesland) train station is served several times a day by long-distance InterCity trains. From there you can easily take the direct bus line (460) to the Aurich central bus station. This way you can easily reach the center of Aurich by public transport.
Note: The DB Niedersachsenticket is also valid on the buses of the Kreisbahn Aurich for the route from Leer to Aurich (and back)!
