With its small, decorated wooden stalls, the traditional winter market in the mountain town of Altenau invites visitors from December 18 through January 2. Every day from 2:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., a varied program is offered along with mulled wine and treats.
On December 31, from 9:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m., the popular open-air New Year’s Eve party will also take place. A highlight of New Year’s Eve is the traditional torchlight hike with the HZV Altenau. The hike starts at 9:00 p.m. at the Kurgastzentrum Altenau (Hüttenstraße 9) and ends around 10:30 p.m. at the HZV Altenau hiking meeting point by the bus parking lot. Torches can be purchased on site for a fee.
