Adendorfer Serenade: Späte Streichquartette

  • Operetta
  • from €19.50 p.P.
The canon of great string quartet music is considered sacrosanct. We, too, began with Mozart. What unites us, however, is the search for a new canon—one that brings suppressed, unexpected, and neglected voices to the forefront.
Joseph Bologne has been called the “Black Mozart”—yet he is a precursor to Mozart and a distinct voice of French classical music. In her “Folk Songs in Counterpoint,” Florence Price weaves together cultural traditions to
an unmistakable quartet language. Eleanor Alberga powerfully carries the legacy of Bartók and Shostakovich into the present. Brittany Green’s “Lead Me Home” opens up new sonic perspectives.
Four compositional languages, 250 years of music history—building blocks of a new canon that symbolically rises here from Mozart’s unfinished Requiem. But there is still a long way to go.
The Rothko String Quartet was founded in Lüneburg in 2017. The musicians combine their specialization in early and contemporary music with a commitment to bringing marginalized composers to the forefront and
rediscovering forgotten works of music history.
