The Wernigerode Christmas market opens its doors on Friday, November 21, 2025. More than 60 traders and restaurateurs create a Christmassy atmosphere and offer traditional craftsmanship, culinary delicacies and, of course, delicious mulled wine specialties between the market square, Breiter Straße and Nicolaiplatz. Christmas carols and festive Advent music can be heard from the Christmas market stage in front of the historic town hall.

The Oberpfarrkirchhof with the Sylvestrikirche behind the historic town hall becomes a church of lights. Three-dimensional light figures of the Harz animal world, together with the tree illuminations at the church and on Nicolaiplatz, bring a special glow of light to the alleyways and amaze not only children. Herrnhut stars above the streets in the old town create an additional Christmas atmosphere.
The Wernigerode gingerbread forest grows on Nicolaiplatz. In a cozy atmosphere, gingerbread figures are waiting to be discovered by visitors.

Christmas time - time for fairytale films. The film courtyard is located in the historic town hall courtyard just behind the market square. In addition to the best-known fairy tale classics, Feuerzangenbowle is also shown on the screen as a black and white film starring Heinz Rühmann.
Living Advent calendar - 24 doors with 24 free experiences for families
The "Living Advent Calendar" offers many surprises. Partners, clubs and companies have put together 24 great offers for families and children. The calendar is available free of charge from the Wernigerode Tourist Information Office and is also given to every child in Wernigerode's nurseries and elementary school. A new door also opens every day on the Internet at www.wernigerode-tourismus.de.
Winter market from December 23, 2025 to January 6, 2026
Once again this year, the Church of Lights and the winter market at the Flower Clock will ensure that the many visitors to the city will find a beautiful offer between the holidays and until January 6. Live music is performed daily on the stage at the flower clock.
