Series "Topographies of Terror"
85 years ago, on May 14, 1940 between 1.27 pm and 1.40 pm, German bombers destroyed the city of Rotterdam as part of the German military invasion of Western Europe. The quarter-hour bombardment led directly to the capitulation of the Netherlands. Based on the fate of Rotterdam, the lecture describes the effects of the German occupation in the Netherlands, from the German invasion and the establishment of the occupying power to the raids in November 1944 and the liberation.

The "Topographies of Terror" serve as an intensive and critical examination of the Nazi ideology and its time, particularly using regional examples. The lecture series is also generally dedicated to the phenomenon of dictatorship, authoritarian governance and their negative consequences for the open and free life of societies. In 2025, the liberation from National Socialism 80 years ago will be the occasion for various events.
