Hümmling Nature Park

Rolling hills, extensive forests, valuable cultural heritage - the Hümmling Nature Park in Emsland has all this, embedded in the North German plain, criss-crossed by small waterways and interspersed with evidence of the megalithic culture during the Neolithic and Bronze Ages.

Old Town

The striking Marktkirche church and the Altes Rathaus (Old Town Hall) are the most southern examples of northern German red brick Gothic architecture. Saunter through picturesque alleys, discover exclusive boutiques, welcoming cafés and restaurants or relax in a snug spot on the banks of the Leine river in the Old Town.

Nature and Geopark TERRA.vita

The nature and geopark offers a particularly good view of 300 million years of very eventful earth history, geological phenomena and their effects on the landscape. Within a small area, you can experience a highly varied North German natural and cultural landscape.

Verden

Verden’s town history is portrayed in impressive exhibits in the Domherrenhaus historic museum. Horse lovers get their money's worth in the Deutsches Pferdemuseum (German Horse Museum). Thrill-seekers will feel at home in the Magic Park amusement park, climbing centre, Verwell water park and Domweih theme park.

Kale

Kale is extremely healthy as it is high in vitamin C, calcium and iron. It is an alkaline food and a healthy winter vegetable because it has a high nutrient density. This kind of German cabbage can be prepared in a number of ways but it is important to cook the vegetable gently to retain as many nutrients as possible. Kale can also be used in raw food recipes, for example in popular green smoothies.

Quality cycling

The ADFC (General German Cyclist’s Association) has awarded three or four stars to three quality cycling routes in Niedersachsen (Lower Saxony), as well as honouring two bike travel regions (RadReiseRegionen). For this purpose, experts evaluated and investigated every aspect of the cycle routes. The result is that these routes fulfil a cyclist’s every desire!

Heidekartoffel potatoes

Almost all typical German food in Niedersachsen comes with these yellow spuds. The “heath’s hidden gold” is bursting with potassium, protein and vitamins. Potatoes grown on Lüneburg Heath are known for being quality produce, not least because the cropland is on sandy heathland soil. Only producers from the Lüneburg Heath region can use the “Lüneburg Heathkartoffel” (“Lüneburg Heath potatoes”) name.

Blueberries

Blueberries, bilberries and huckleberries are all names given to these tasty blue berries. 70% of all German plantations are located in Niedersachsen and blueberry picking is a popular summer pastime. As well as being delicious, the fruits are very healthy as they are high in antioxidants. The berries contain vitamins C, E, K and B in addition to iron and magnesium. They also help your immune system to fight infections and colds.
