This 69-km loop takes us into nature and begins in the picturesque town of Bremervörde, which is known for its location on the Oste River and the impresses with its extraordinary scenic diversity.

From the train station, we take a short shuttle to the route. We start by heading west on well-maintained trails until, after 9 km, we reach our first stop in the idyllic village of Bevern. Bevern is known for its , an impressive example of industrial architecture where the “treasure of fire” was once harvested in the form of bricks.

Our tour continues through charming fields and meadows to the small town of Sandbostel, where we cross the Oste River for the second time and pass through the district of Immenhain. Here you’ll find the . In 1939, the Wehrmacht established the Stalag XB prisoner-of-war camp, which held more than 300,000 prisoners of war, civilian and military internees from over 35 countries by the end of the war. In April 1945, 9,500 prisoners from the Neuengamme concentration camp were added to the camp. Today, 23 buildings still stand, and a modern permanent exhibition informs visitors about the dark history of the camp and World War II.

Now we drive through the farmland of the former Teufelsmoor, past the northern foothills of the . A short while later, we arrive at the in Augustendorf, a typical farmstead of the first moor settlers, and cycle a short distance along the , which was formerly used to transport peat and goods to Bremen. From there, the route passes through the residential and forested area of Gnarrenburg—a town made famous by the invention of the and is located in the center of the former Teufelsmoor. If you need a break, take a short 1-kilometer detour along Hermann-Lambrecht-Straße to the center of Gnarrenburg, where there are several places to stop for refreshments.

On the next section of the route, we’ll pass through the villages of Osterwede, Oese, Barchel, and Hipstedt. In between lies a cultivated moorland landscape with pastures and fields, creating a very special atmosphere. From Hipstedt, the route first passes through the dense Hinzel Forest and continues through the gently rolling countryside to Ebersdorf and Alfstedt, the northernmost point of the tour.

On the final 12 km of the “Nordschleifchen,” we pass through a gently rolling geest landscape and the Höhne Forest before returning to Bremervörde. Here, cozy cafés and restaurants invite you to reflect on the ride during a break. The at with its is the perfect way to end your day on a relaxing note, engaging all your senses
