description: "The Naturpark-Scheune Steinhude lies at the heart of the Steinhuder Meer Nature Park, a 420-square-kilometre landscape of lakes, moorlands and woodlands that transforms into a place of quiet beauty in winter. Located in the charming Scheunenviertel of Steinhude, the information centre has become an inviting gateway to this region since its opening during Expo 2000. Inside, visitors can discover an engaging, interactive exhibition that brings the unique flora and fauna of the Steinhuder Meer bird sanctuary to life. Informative displays reveal how wildlife adapts to the colder months, from migrating waterbirds resting on icy shores to the subtle resilience of winter vegetation. Knowledgeable staff are available to provide insights into nature conservation and the seasonal rhythms of the region. When frost sparkles over the lake and the reeds glisten in pale light, the Naturpark-Scheune Steinhude offers a warm and welcoming space to connect with nature in another, quieter way. Whether enjoyed as part of a winter walk through the town or after exploring the frozen paths along the shore, it is an inspiring place to pause, learn, and experience the serene side of northern Germany’s most famous inland lake."
