Seasonal Gourmet Events

The first warm days of spring cannot fail to make you long for fresh herbs, fruit and vegetables. Sample the first fresh German asparagus of the year directly from the fields of Lower Saxony and savour the first sticks of rhubarb.

Then along comes the berry season of summer. At no other time of the year is there as much fresh fruit to be picked in the region as in summer: blueberries, strawberries or gooseberries – all freshly harvested from the region in summer. And not forgetting the wealth of different salad vegetables – delicious freshly picked from the field to the table. Whether served as a side dish or main meal, grilled or raw – salad vegetables really add to the enjoyment of summer.

You’ll also discover tips on the most attractive pumpkin growers in Lower Saxony for the autumn – and apples and pears also have a season of their own. And if you want to know where your fruit comes from, simply pay a visit to one of the many fruit farms in the region to buy your fruit directly from the grower or even pick your own.

Comfort food is the order of the day in winter: discover all there is to know about German cabbage and interesting facts about the tradition of winter “cabbage walks”. And before you know it, Christmas is just around the corner with Lebkuchen (German gingerbread), biscuits and Stollen cake typically eaten in the run-up to Christmas.
