Our 24 life-size outdoor nativity scenes—unique in the entire region—have proven to be a major draw for visitors. Unlike many small communities, where the Christmas tree in the village square heralds the approaching holiday, here the entire town is uniquely and atmospherically illuminated, warmly inviting visitors to explore the large nativity scene exhibition, a special exhibition at the Glass and Smelting Museum, and a diverse program of events at the Luther Church. The number and variety of lights are outstanding for a small Harz village nestled in an idyllic valley. What makes it special is that residents and local organizations always participate by decorating their windows and front yards. The festive atmosphere of our village as darkness falls and a stroll to the nativity scene stations are always a truly memorable experience. The organizers, nativity scene builders, and artists are constantly striving to expand and lovingly refine this event. Even regular visitors can always look forward to new experiences. On Advent Sundays, the popular home nativity scene exhibition invites you to visit the Nativity Scene Café, featuring live music.
