An Almost True Story—a play about lies and truth, appearance and reality—and the question of whether one can reinvent oneself without losing oneself. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Georg Alexander is a man straight out of a book—provided that book is one you read with a good glass of wine and without too much sense of reality. A cultured idler and lover of refined idleness. The serious side of life? For Georg Alexander, that’s a friendly suggestion he’s so far generously ignored. But one day, life takes a turn—and a historic one at that: Georg Alexander learns that he is a direct descendant of the legendary Hieronymus Carl Friedrich Baron von Münchhausen. Yes, that very Münchhausen—the Baron of Lies, the hero of fantastical adventures, who could ride a half-horse and pull himself out of a swamp by his own hair. Georg Alexander’s life is turned upside down. Suddenly, he finds himself at the center of a media storm, being liked, praised, canceled, and hyped—all at the same time. Visibility becomes an addiction, and with it come people pursuing their very own agendas. Everyone wants a piece of the Münchhausen myth. Everyone wants to be part of it. “How I Learned to Become Münchhausen” is a highly entertaining play that blends fairy tale and modernity—a cheerful and thrilling evening of theater featuring a live actor, two film actors, and music.
