The Christmas market in the canal town of Papenburg is small but very cozy. The city center of Papenburg is crossed by a canal, near which stands the old mill and on the large square in front of it is the Christmas market on the 2nd and 3rd weekend of Advent. There are uniform, cosy stalls and pavilions, which each trader has designed individually.
In addition to the offerings from the stalls, the festive and atmospheric supporting program of numerous choirs and music groups is particularly impressive. The musical after-work get-together, which starts at 6 pm on both Fridays and is used by many Papenburg companies for a stroll together, is sure to be a particular attraction.
This year, the traditional Nikolaimarkt will once again take place in front of the Nikolaikirche on the 2nd weekend in Advent. In previous years, the Nikolaimarkt and the Christmas market on Mühlenplatz have complemented each other wonderfully. On this second Sunday in Advent, there is always a lot of public traffic between the two markets, which are connected by lights that burn in the dark.
