When Benjamin Maack experiences another depressive episode in the spring of 2025, he starts keeping a diary on Instagram. He types it out on his phone—on the sofa, in doctors’ waiting rooms—before picking up his children from school.
He writes about himself, his thoughts and feelings, and his family. Through writing, he reflects on his daily life, creating a space where people can get a close look at his life and where he, too, finds a connection with others. In the comments and private messages, readers write to him almost daily, telling him that his diary makes them feel less alone, that his entries give them hope and comfort, move them to tears, and also make them laugh.
