It impresses with its unique combination of nature, geology and cultural history. The Elm, the largest contiguous beech forest area in northern Germany, and the Lappwald with its species-rich mixed forests characterize this region. Here, streams meander through small valleys, old quarries and orchards provide charming accents. A geological highlight in the Elm is the largest \"crinoid cemetery\" in the world, located in Europe's largest geopark, the UNESCO Geopark Harz . Braunschweig region . Eastphalia. The nature park is also rich in cultural and historical sites. Three fascinating figures illustrate this diversity. Emperor Lothar promoted the construction of monasteries and churches, such as the famous imperial cathedral in Königslutter. Till Eulenspiegel, the famous jester, comes from this region. His stories come to life in the Eulenspiegel Museum in Schöppenstedt. Robber Rose is a local celebrity from the Lapp Forest. He is known for his daring robberies and a life on the fringes of society, with a touch of romance and rebellion. In the Elm-Lappwald Nature Park, nature, culture and stories can be experienced on numerous hiking and cycling trails. The nature park is part of the National Natural Landscapes (NNL). In this alliance, the German national parks, nature parks, biosphere reserves and wilderness areas work together with people to preserve fascinating nature on around a third of Germany's surface area, convey the joy of experiencing nature and shape the future sustainably with confidence.
