Petting zoo in Nordhorn with colorful Bentheim piglets

Attracting around 300,000 visitors annually, this family zoo in the countryside and close to the Dutch border is one of the most popular attractions in Grafschaft Bentheim. Covering an area of 10 hectares, the zoo is home to 1,000 animals and 90 species. In addition to family-friendly prices, it also offers many attractions and features for children, including a zoo school.

Another very special feature at the zoo is the “Naturpfad Vechteaue” nature trail, where children and young people can learn about the secrets of animals and nature in educational games and information posts. Follow the raised boardwalk trail through the pretty Auwald biotope along the old arm of the Vechte and you’ll come to the historic Vechte Farmstead. The 100-year-old farm with an original farm cottage garden, keeps many old species of farm animals, some of which are highly endangered. One of the key attractions here is the petting zoo with its rare Bentheim black pied piglets.
