Between mountains and forest

A variety of different landscapes, whose diversity of shapes has its origins in the turbulent geological history of the earth is spread out over 1,550 km2. Due to its exceptionally fragmented geological mosaic, TERRA.vita became the first German nature park to be given the title of geopark in 2001.

Numerous offers, such as the „mudflat hiking by day“, make the history of the Earth tangible.

Tourism highlights including historic villages, archaeological dolmens, medieval castles and the Kalkriese museum park, on whose grounds the well-known Battle of the Teutoburg Forest was fought. At special events hundreds of actors dressed as Romans and Germans bring history to life by setting up their tents
in the museum park.

Unique views of the charming landscape of the surrounding country are available from the mountain ridges of the Teutoburg Forest. This can be explored in single or multi-day trips by bike or on foot. A hike along Hermannsweg, whose best leg runs directly through the nature park, is recommended. Resorts and spas offer
respite from the hike with generous wellness and fitness facilities.
