The East Frisian island of Juist is quite worthy of the nickname "Töwerland" (magic land). Anyone arriving here experiences a different world: one passes the harbour with its imposing navaids and continues on land with horses and carts. As if the stress of everyday life is "spirited away".
The island of Juist is car-free and best on foot, by bike or by carriage. Juist is on its way to becoming the first carbon neutral destination in the world. Due to many measures, such as the complete switch to renewable energy and the conversion of buildings into micro-power stations, "Juist Climate Island" presses ahead ever further beyond its project of sustainability. As one of the leading tourist resorts in Germany, Juist has received a CSR certification by Green Globe.
Being only 500 meters wide Juist is very narrow however, it is the longest East Frisian Island with 17 kilometres. Endless dunes and long white beaches dominate the landscape and depending on weather conditions, are very inviting for bathing in the North Sea or for hiking on the island.
