Johannes a Lasco Library Emden

The oldest library in East Frisia, founded in the Reformed parish in 1559, contains a valuable stock of historic books, an encyclopaedic collection covering all science fields and the Emden Bible. The great church, Emden’s ‘Moederkerk’ or ‘mother church’, was destroyed by bombs in 1943 but it was possible to save the library and archive, which are now housed in the rebuilt church. Today, this institution is not only a library but also a special venue for cultural events in the centre of the town. In addition to concerts, the building regularly hosts conferences as well!
Both the building and the museum area are open to the public. The library is not currently in use.
