Nature, culture and green heathlands – the Südheide Gifhorn region invites cyclists to enjoy a cycling trip with baggage service. The attractive sections of the trip pass through woodlands, moors and heathlands, and there are plenty of country inns for the perfect break. At the end of the day, you’ll find your luggage waiting for you at the hotel. The total distance is 200 kilometres.
The tour starts in Gifhorn, the Town of Mills, which is situated where the Aller and the Elbe-Seitenkanal join. The key attraction in Gifhorn is the International Wind and Watermill Museum. This unique open-air museum, the only one of its kind in Europe, is located in charming countryside with lakes and rivers. There are 16 mills on the museum grounds, which are more than 100,000 square metres in size.
A round trip with interesting sights
The round trip takes you through Wahrenholz, Hankensbüttel, Meinersen and Müden an der Oker back to Gifhorn. On the way, you pass interesting sights, including the Otter Centre, the round village of Lüben and the museum of film and cinema in Vollbüttel. At Tankumsee Lake, you can take a quick, refreshing dip, jog along the shore or climb the dyke and gaze down on the Elbe-Seitenkanal.
