Equestrian Tradition in the Oldenburger Münsterland

The horse-breeding tradition and equestrian sport have a long tradition in the Oldenburger Münsterland. Successful show-jumpers dominate the international equestrian sports scene with the ‘Oldenburg horse’ which is bred in this district. The region is also home to major names of international equestrian sport such as Alwin and Paul Schockemöhle, Nicole Uphoff, Lisa Wilcok and Gilbert Böckmann. The world-class four-in-hand team drivers Bernd and Reiner Duen, as well as many stud farms and breeding stations such as Vorwerk, Böckmann and Klatte, are also based in the Oldenburger Münsterland. In spring and autumn elite auctions are held in Vechta, where the auctioneer Uwe Heckmann persuades horse enthusiasts to pay top prices for top horses.
