Routes to the Roots - on the Trail of the Emigrants
The organisation Routes to the Roots (RsRs) has been in existence since 1997 and arose out of the work of the research institute "Lower Saxon Emigrants in the USA". RsRs is concerned specifically with the issue of emigrants, and offers specialist holidays in this area. Over 150 years ago, many people left Niedersachsen looking for happiness, freedom and a better life. Today you can retrace their steps with RsRs on four routes lasting several days and on short town visits.
For American visitors, special programmes have been put together for the regions of the North-West from which many of the emigrants came, the Oldenburg and Osnabruck regions, East Friesia, Cuxhaven and Bremerhaven. To help you on your way, Routes to the Roots have produced a map, the "Auswanderungs-Karte Nordwest" (North-West emigration map). RsRs will carry out historical and biographical research for you, or will advise on individual research. If you wish to research your own genealogy, you can look through the organisation's regional databases of emigrants.
