Take a voyage into the past and through the varied history of the Osnabruck region on the Bramgau route. Famous and notorious rulers and heroes have left their mark here. The first of whom was Hermann the Cherusker, better known as Arminius, who defeated the legions of the Roman commander Varus in the legendary battle of the same name.
Charlemagne founded the diocesan town of Osnabruck in 783 and fought a number of battles with his adversary Wittekind, who opposed the conversion to Christianity of the heathen Saxons. The sights of the Bramgau route are steeped in the myths and legends of these two figures. Visit the Witteskind castle ruins near Wallenhorst, the fortified St. Johannis church in Alfhausen, the Saxon place of worship in Ueffeln or the cloth working town of Bramsche.
