At the point where the rivers Werra and Fulda join to form the river Weser, beautifully situated among hills and forests lies Hann. Münden. Over 700 half-timbered buildings dating back six centuries, fortified towers and remains of the old City Wall bear witness of the pride and wealth of the town's former citizens - a framework city of European rank.

Ancient trading town on the water

Duke Otto I of Brunswick awarded the town the “Stapelrecht” trading privilege in 1247. This extensive trading privilege obliged all merchants passing through the town to unload their goods in Münden and offer them for sale to the citizens of Münden for three days. In this way, the town quickly achieved a prosperity which is reflected in the magnificently decorated halftimbered houses and Weser renaissance buildings.

Weserradweg - the Most Popular Cycle Route in Germany

The Weserradweg long distance cycle route has repeatedly been voted Germany's most popular cycle route by the Allgemeinen Deutschen Fahrrad Club (ADFC - the General German Cycling Club). The route starts in Hann. Münden and leads, after more than 400 kilometres of cycling, to Cuxhaven on the North Sea. You can enjoy peace and relaxation in the widely varying landscape, organise your leisure time actively and healthily, and what's more, it's fun! The Weserradweg cycle route is sign-posted throughout, good maps of the route are available and there are many cycle friendly "Bed & Bike“ establishments.
