Mittelweser - Vacation of the Self!

The flat land along the river Weser is surrounded by Minden and Hannover in the south and Bremen in the north. The region invites you to take vacation of yourself. Wide meadows with marvellous forests and fields, extensive bog and heath areas emboss the landscape. From Nienburg, located in the centre of the region, no tone of the neat holiday resorts is more than 50 kilometres away. You still need to take your time for visiting the Mittelweser, because you will enjoy everything and forget the every day stress. In this rural area, life is still determined by the rhythm of the seasons. This rhythm will also influence the visitor.


Picture: Asparagus In the farming country of the Mittelweser you will find top-class products all produced within the region itself. Try the regional specialities such as Nienburg asparagus, cabbage, Weser eel or blueberries. Blueberries as far as the eye can see - great fun for young and old when you pick them yourself. The "Blue Dream" alone is well worth the trip - blueberries with vanilla ice-cream, advocaat and cream.


Say "Yes!" … a different kind of marriage

Historical cities, neat farms covered by old oaks and idyllic villages with their initial character are located in this area. Whether in mills, country houses or on former railroad drawing wagons of former princes from 1901 – we offer an unforgettable setting according to your personal and individual wishes. Romance and nostalgia will always be there.


Pleasure of Cycling

Picture: Cyclists along the river Weser The region Mittelweser is flat as a plate, foresee the ridge of the Rehburger Hills. Therefore it is the ideal region for cycling. Even the little ones of the family are able to keep up. Chose your route from 2000 kms of cycling tracks. The most popular German cycling track, the “Weserradweg”, leads through this region.


"Three rivers, one sea" - Satellite-controlled bicycle tours

Picture: Bicycle tour with GPS navigation Another recent first is the use of a satellite-controlled navigation system on the "Three rivers, one sea" bicycle tour. Cyclists are kept right on track by means of a handy navigation device fitted to the handlebars. The starting and finishing point of the 5-day package tour is the "Steinhuder Meer". The tour follows the three rivers Leine, Aller and Weser through high moorlands, meadows and silent forests. Each of the daily stages has a length of between 45 - 60 kilometer, and your luggage will be transported for you to your daily destination.


Railway-Museum Bruchhausen-Vilsen

Picture: Historical train You always wanted to be a train guard? In Bruchhausen-Vilsen time hasn't stood still, it's been turned back! The oldest outdoor rail museum in Germany has a unique collection of narrow-gauge vehicles on display - steam and diesel locomotives, engines and passenger and goods wagons. On Saturdays and Sundays from May to the start of October, the historic rail vehicles travel the narrow gauge track between Bruchhausen-Vilsen and Asendorf. Passengers are introduced to the authentic running of a small rail operation, just as it was all over Germany after the turn of the 20th century. In the splendid lounge car, couples can say "I do", and start their honeymoon trip during the wedding ceremony!


Dinosaur Park Münchehagen

Picture: Dinosaur Park Muenchehagen Take an exciting trip back in time in the Münchehagen dinosaur park. 130 million years ago, huge herds of dinosaurs roamed the countryside around the Steinhuder Sea. The footprints of these huge creatures can be found right here in the park. You can admire this unique natural monument and over 120 full size dinosaur reconstructions on a tour of the park – Germany's largest outdoor dinosaur park. Find out about the development of these fascinating extinct giant lizards right up to their demise.
