Hannover Adventure Zoo - It's Safari Time!
Over the last few years Hannover Zoo has developed into a zoo and theme park that's unique in Europe. The zoo displays over 2,000 animals in the exciting gorilla mountain, jungle palace, Meyer's farm and Zambezi themed areas. The exciting themed areas allow the visitors to really come face to face with the animals. Experience Africa to the full in Zambezi Land, on a boat ride among the hippopotami, rhinoceroses, flamingos and pelicans. The Hodenhagen Serengeti safari park, Germany's biggest safari and big game reserve, has over 1000 exotic animals. Visitors can experience a real African safari. The animals often stare right into the Serengeti bus or in through your car windows. You can see giraffes, rhinos, camels and many other animals at first hand on the safari road through the animal enclosures.
Take an exciting trip back in time in the Münchehagen dinosaur park. 130 million years ago, huge herds of dinosaurs roamed the countryside around the Steinhuder Sea. The footprints of these huge creatures can be found right here in the park. You can admire this unique natural monument and over 120 full size dinosaur reconstructions on a tour of the park – Germany's largest outdoor dinosaur park. Find out about the development of these fascinating extinct giant lizards right up to their demise.
Experience the whole breadth of the bird world from every continent and climatic zone in a magnificent park. The over 4,500 birds are kept in a way appropriate to the species in large aviaries, visitor-accessible large indoor aviaries and generous open-air enclosures making the bird park a unique facility. The 240,000 square metres of parkland and gardens are worth a visit to discover the secrets of the bird world at any time of year.
With a surface area of 32 square kilometers in the north-west of Germany Steinhuder Sea (Steinhuder Meer) is the biggest stretch of inland water, and is therefore the sailing, sailboarding and bathing paradise of the region. Steinhude smoked eel, prepared locally according to an old secret recipe, is famous far beyond the borders of the region. Lake Steinhude is not only the local recreation area for the people of Hannover, but also attracts many holidaymakers to the region who appreciate the extensive Nature Reserve and the outstanding opportunities for water sports.
