Surfing without Barriers

In Germany there are around 7 million people with severe handicaps. These include people with visual, aural, motor and cognitive restrictions. The Internet is frequently the most important means of communication for these users. That is why the federal government has created the legal guidelines for barrier-free access to electronic information media with the Disabled Equality Act, which came into effect in May 2002. The guidelines are based on the recommendations of the W3C initiative "Web Accessibility Initiative" (WAI) and describe in detail the regulations for the creation of barrier-free Internet sites.

Although we are not legally affected by this ruling, the accessibility of our offer for all users was an important reason for the technical, artistic and conceptional reworking of our offer "reiseland-niedersachsen.de". The optimisations are being carried out within the meaning of the recommendations of the W3C (XHTML and CSS) and Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG).

However, when we speak of barrier-freedom, it is never the regulation itself, but always the practicability of our solution that is in the foreground. That is why we have tested the website and optimised by our service provider Cybay New Media.

As barrier-freedom is not an end in itself for us, but is at the same time a gain for the usability and access possibilities of all target groups in addition to the direct benefit for handicapped persons, we look forward to your ideas in order to constantly improve our offer.
