Basics about Niedersachsen

Niedersachsen - First class holidays in terms of amusement parks, horse breeding and skiing pleasure.
Niedersachsen is the second largest federal state in Germany and on the southern side borders the Hanseatic town of Hamburg. It is the only federal state combining the sea and the mountains. Sophisticated holidays at the North Sea and on the seven islands are just as popular as active winter sports in the Harz Mountains. Visitors of the SNOW DOME Bispingen in the Lüneburger Heide are even able to ski and toboggan all the year round. The world’s biggest bird’s park in Walsrode, Northern Germany’s largest amusement park “Heide-Park” and the go-kart track of the ex-Formula 1 star Ralf Schumacher are in close proximity. In Wolfsburg, one of the world’s largest automobile plants can be visited. With the “Autostadt”, Volkswagen AG has furthermore created a unique world of experience all about automobiles. Directly on the other side of the road: the brand-new designer outlet stores of Wolfsburg.
Hannover, the capital of the federal state, is well-known due to great exhibitions such as the CeBIT and the industrial exhibition. Besides, other important leading trade fairs also take place on the world’s largest exhibition grounds. The ancestral seat of the House of Hannover of the oldest European princely house of the Welfs, the romantic Marienburg, is located in close vicinity to the capital of the federal state. And the Hannover Adventure Zoo has repeatedly been voted Germany’s most beautiful animal park. The best known animals of Niedersachsen however are the “Hanoverian”, “Oldenburg” and “Friesen horse”. The first two breeds of horse class among the great achievers at international tournaments. Each year, several big auctions take place in Verden, the town of riders, during which the best breeding and riding animals can be bought.
The towns of Hildesheim and Goslar are part of the Niedersachsen towns most steeped in tradition. The Hildesheim cathedral and the Michaelis church as well as the former mine “Rammelsberg” and the old town of Goslar, a thousand years of age, have been pronounced world heritage by the UNESCO. Other towns such as Hameln, Celle or Stade also impress by means of their historical buildings and squares. Three towns in Niedersachsen alone are among the top five of the German therapeutic and health resorts. These also include Bad Harzburg which has even more highlights to offer to its visitors with its race course and one of the ten casinos of Niedersachsen.
