You can experience exotic butterflies amongst tropical vegetation at two sites in Niedersachsen. Located in Buchholz in the northern heath and in Uslar, the alaris butterfly parks swarm with hundreds of the colourful, free-flying insects. With a little luck you may be able to watch a new generation hatching out. Tropical butterflies do not view man as an enemy, and are not afraid of him. Anything with its legs on the ground is seen as a plant and our visitors are sometimes mistaken for huge flowers.
The alaris butterfly park in Buchholz in the northern heath is like a chunk of rainforest. Hundreds of free-flying butterflies teem among the luxuriant plant life under the glass roof. The park has a total of three halls with three different biotopes, sub-tropical, tropical rainforest and Mediterranean climates. The alaris butterfly park in Uslar in contrast is dedicated entirely to the tropical climate. In a world of lianas, orchids and ferns, the visitor can discover the diversity of tropical butterflies. From three centimetre long clearwing moths to the up to 32 centimetre long Atlas moth, you can see over 140 different types of butterfly.
