Elm-Lappwald Nature Park

Picture: Walkers on the Lübbensteinen near Helmstedt

Elm Lappwald nature park forms, along with the neighbouring wooded areas in Saxony-Anhalt, the cream of the region around Braunschweig. The landscape is characterised by the wooded hills of Elm, Lappwald and Dorm.

Elm woods, considered the largest and most beautiful beech wood in North Germany, the unspoilt Dorm and the mysterious Lappwald promise exciting encounters with nature. The nature park was permanently settled as early as the early stone age, to which the frequent megaliths and barrows of the park bear impressive witness. Ancient hunting weapons have been found near the town of Schöningen – the Schöninger spears are over 400,000 years old! Access to the natural beauty and attractions of the park is provided by a total of over 500 kilometres of signposted cycle and walking routes.
