Elbufer-Drawehn Nature Park

Picture: Bank of river Elbe near Gartow © TourismusMarketing Niedersachsen GmbH

From Dahlenburg to Schnackenburg, almost untouched river meadows form the broad Elbe floodplain. The nature park is characterised by the contrast between the landscapes of the glacial Elbe valley and the Drawehn with differences in altitude of up to 70 meters. The Elbe embankment offers magnificent views over the natural and man-made landscape.

The wonders of the natural world, large and small, can be enjoyed on a themed bike ride, riding tour, guided walk, or escorted boat and bus tours. Fungi seminars and evening excursions to the deer rut are possible, as are guided rollerblade tours and "rallyes" (organised events where groups have to find the answers to questions regarding the area being visited) for adults and children.

The Elbe embankment keeps the waters from the fertile meadowland where Friesian cows graze and horses are successfully bred. The man-made landscape blends harmoniously with the natural.
