The Bomann-Museum is one of the most beautiful and biggest regional museums in Northern Germany. The emphasis of the collection lies on the cultural history of the land of Niedersachsen. The charm of the building, situated opposite Celle castle, lies in the features added at the turn of the century: a complete Zweiständerhaus (house with two posts in the cross-section), rural and urban living-rooms of the 19th century as well as the hall of honour of the Hannover army, which is classified as a cultural-historical monument today.
Around these fixtures you will find informative exhibits in a modern design around various aspects of Celle’s urban history. These include aspects of craftsmanship and industrial history. The museum also features an important collection of urban and rural textiles, which is the only one of its kind in Northern Germany.
Moreover, the museum looks after the Eberhard-Schlotter Foundation, featuring the works of the internationally recognised painter and graphic artist Eberhard Schlotter, born in 1921. The foundation contains miniature paintings from the 18th and 19th century, which belong to the most important ones in the world: the miniature collection Tansey. They can be viewed in a permanent exhibition under changing thematic aspects.
