Porzellanmanufaktur FÜRSTENBERG was founded in Fürstenberg Castle, high above the river Weser, by Duke Carl I of Brunswick in 1747 and went on to become one of Europe’s most famous porcelain manufacturers. The castle complex, which is protected as a historical monument, includes the manufactory’s own porcelain museum - the only one in Northern Germany - a large manufactory shop and the Lottine café offering a unique view of the Weser valley.
The castle museum documents three hundred years of porcelain production in FÜRSTENBERG using both historical and contemporary collections as well as presenting a range of changing special exhibitions on the subject of porcelain. In addition, the castle hosts exciting events like the Commedia dell’Arte festival, the Manufactory Open Day in the second week of September or the Christmas market in the first two weeks of Advent, all of which include a varied programme of entertainment for visitors.
