Castles and Forts - Dreams and Heroic Deeds

They awaken dreams of heroic deeds, sumptuous feasts and splendid celebrations. Niedersachsen's castles and stately homes are wrapped in history, with many sagas and fairytales woven around these splendid buildings. Whilst it used to be considered a privilege to be able to set foot in the castle, most of these splendid buildings are now in public hands and open to visitors.

Bentheim Castle

Bodenteich Fort in the Lüneburg Heide

The partially still preserved keep from the 14th/15th centuries nowadays serves as a vantage point. It is accessible all year round and also has a small weapon and defence exhibition.more


Castles and gardens in Emsland

Nowhere else in Europe can such a fully preserved hunting lodge with central building and eight pavilions between imposing avenues be found. The Baroque Castle Park is perfect for a stroll.more


Porzellanmanufaktur FÜRSTENBERG

The castle complex, which is protected as a historical monument, includes the manufactory’s own porcelain museum.more


Hann. Münden Guelph's Castle

Münden was completed on an old fort site in 1501 by Duke Erich I. von Braunschweig-Lüneburg in a Gothic style. After a fire in 1560 it was rebuilt by Duke Erich II. in the style of the Weser Renaissance.more


Hardenberg Castle Ruins

One of the historic vaults is today the registry office. Every once in a while the fort ruins are romantically illuminated for concerts and exhibitions. more
