Marienburg Castle
Visit one of the most important neo-Gothic buildings of historic importance in Germany and allow yourself to be transported back to Hanoverian court life. The atmospheric „Castle Restaurant“ in the former stables, countless concerts and events are perfect for whiling away the time. Even from a distance, the Marienburg Castle, located 20 km south of Hannover and 15 km north-west of Hildesheim, soars from the gentle hills of the Leine valley.
The former summer residence of the Guelphs – once a gift from the Hanoverian King George V. to his wife, Queen Mary – is still owned by the family. The viewing of the interior rooms is possible as part of a one-hour guided tour. You will be shown state and private apartments of the royal family. The elaborate interior design with historic furnishings, paintings and historic and rare objets d’art impressively revive the court culture during the end of the 19th century.
The castle is open daily from Easter until the end of October from 10.00 am to 06.00 pm. The last castle tour begins at 5:00 pm. Groups of more than 15 people can also take part in a tour outside of these opening hours by registering in advance. The classic castle guided tours are complemented by themed tours, e.g. with a focus on “architecture and building history” or “behind the scenes.”
Concerts In addition to guided tours of the castle, every year a variety of events attracts guests, e.g. the Jazz Brunch on every first Sunday of the month during the season, the Classic Open-Air concerts with high-altitude fireworks at the beginning of September, children’s open-airs and lots more. The current event schedule can be viewed online.
Parties and conferences Exclusive rooms in the castle can be hired for parties, conferences and events. Depending on the size of the event, individual rooms or the whole castle are available. There is seating room for up to 350 people in Marienburg Castle. For larger events the rooms of the “Castle Restaurant” can be added or marquees can be set up in the inner courtyard.
Tip: Weddings Would you like to get married in the setting of a fairytale castle? You can arrange your wedding ceremony to be held at Marienburg, from May to October, in the romantic castle chapel, which was built in the style of the Sainte Chapelle in Paris. Marriage ceremonies, christenings and private services can be held here for up to 60 guests. The following wedding party can either take place in the exclusive rooms of the castle or in the “Castle Restaurant.”
Castle Restaurant As well as countless offers and events, the à la carte Castle Restaurant can be found in the former stables. Designed in the style of a French bistro from the late 19th century, you will be impressed by the attentive service staff, either inside the restaurant or in the inner courtyard. Enjoy the varied offers and homemade cakes, pies and French tartes in a royal atmosphere. The weekly highlights include the culinary Wednesday, changing themed buffets and the brunch on Sunday.
