From the Source to the Mouth

This tour is suitable for: Touring

It’s fascinating how a stream turns into a powerful river: the Ems! Awarded 4 stars by the ADFC, this cycling route runs from the river's source at Hövelhof outside Paderborn to its estuary at the Lower Saxony North Sea.

The route is full of contrasts in the great outdoors, with wildlife in the Emsauen area and more animals in Naturpark Flora Westfalica, impressive churches and half-timbered buildings in the Paderborner Land and Münsterland areas, opportunities for a quiet rest at the pilgrimage site Wallfahrtsort Telgte or the monastery Kloster Bentlage, and then wide-open green space, the busy towns of the Emsland and the maritime flair of Ostfriesland.
