STADEUM in Stade

From art gallery to palace, book readings in a bar or an opera concert in Stadeum – culture-lovers are spoilt for choice in the Altes Land am Elbstrom. Art has many different faces in this holiday region: modern painting, sculptures, literature and music. There are many inspiring things to discover: Agathenburg Palace is now a culture centre and museum. From the palace cafe and the terrace visitors have a superb view over the expanse of the Elbe valley. The Schwedenspeicher Museum was once a warehouse for provisions; now you’ll find a large collection of historical treasures behind its thick stone walls. The Kunsthaus Stade am Wasser West is famed for its high-carat art exhibitions. The Buxtehude Museum focuses on local history and its exhibits include a fine collection of Altländer filigree jewellery. More about the Altes Land fruit-growing region and its orchards can be found in the Museum Altes Land in Jork, which is a true gem.
The choice of art and culture, the magical little town of Buxtehude, the charming Christmas markets in the old centres of the Hanseatic towns, the Kedinger Land – called “crime county” because so many mystery and crime authors live and work here, and the historical treasures throughout the Stader Geest are what make this holiday region so special.
